Located on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, this architectural design was custom created for a growing family of four. Coastal custom design by Steve Herlong.
The pathway to the front door is different than you would typically find on a home on Sullivan's Island.
Rather than using a traditional exterior entry stair, the entrance to this home is through a landscaped breezeway, which naturally flows into the poolside entertaining area or upwards through an adjacent entry hall to the interior living spaces above.
This master bedroom features architectural features based on a tropical island retreat. The doors and windows open to a fabulous breeze in the summer and fresh cool air in the fall and winter.
A free standing tub and separate shower features travertine tiles and hammered silver sinks in each vanity.
Responding to unique coastal conditions, the living areas are designed and oriented to enjoy the breeze and light from all directions.
The interiors reflect the charm of a coastal beach cottage with a hint of Caribbean detailing by the use of Basa Ra Locus in the hipped ceilings.
This spectacular kitchen was designed with the same coastal charm felt through the entire house and includes black polished granite countertops, hipped ceiling and a separate pantry.
Another view of the spectacular Sullivan's Island kitchen designed by Herlong & Associates.
Interior design was created with the help of Heidi Walker owner of Walker Design Group.

Located on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, this Barrier Island Refuge was designed to withstand the harsh environmental conditions of a coastal climate and enhance the streetscape as a welcome neighbor within an existing community. Reflective of the homeowner's personalities, the Herlong design team creatively articulated the massing to make this home feel comfortable and playful, welcoming visitors on foot, bicycle, or golf cart much more often than by car.
